This module is an introduction to the function of statistics and is specifically designed for mathematicians and so assumes knowledge of numbers, mathematical equations and central tendency. It is an essentially practical module which demonstrates statistical theory and tools through using SPSS for solving statistical problems.

Weekly contact: 2 lectures (x 10 weeks) , 1 tutorial (x 10 weeks) 3 hours of scheduled revision week sessions

Scheduled learning hours: 65

Guided independent study hours: 135

Assessment pattern

As used by St Andrews: 1.5-hour Written Examination = 70%, Coursework = 30%


Re-assessment: 1.5-hour Written Examination = 100%
