The language component takes students from basic clause and sentence structure through to the elements of cohesion essential for academic discourse, and is practised in the drafting and redrafting of essays and other pieces of writing. Attention is drawn to the particular discipline-specific characteristics of text in the reading component. The reading material is taken from a number of disciplines, thus demonstrating disciplinary differences and enhancing student vocabulary as well as background knowledge in a number of topics.
