Academic year(s): 2017-2018

Key information

SCOTCAT credits : 15

ECTS credits : 7

Level : SCQF level 10

Semester: 1

Planned timetable: To be arranged.

This module provides students with a sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary narrative by Galician women writers. The module equips students with the necessary theoretical frameworks on feminism and women's writing to explore themes such as displacement, memory, creativity and identity. A range of novels by writers with diverse views on issues relating to gender, politics and language will be analysed in order to explore the many competing discourses in contemporary Galician culture, including nationalism, centralism and cosmopolitanism. The particular focus on Spanish-language work by writers from Galicia allows for access to Galician culture through the medium of Spanish. By the end of the module, students will have developed a broad understanding of the social, cultural, geographical and political factors which inform contemporary writing by Galician women.
