This module aims to provide students with a good understanding of key issues and methods in book history ca.1445-1830. Through the evaluation of primary and secondary sources students will become familiar with the invention, development, spread, and transformation of printing in the period concerned. They will develop a sound knowledge of important aspects of book history, such as the economics of the book trade, the social and religious context of printed books, the development of the illustrated book, the relationship between books and the Enlightenment, and the history of libraries and book collecting.
