The sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries were a time of profound social, political, economic, religious, and legal change. This module explores life and death in early modern England. It considers a range of topics, including family and community, courtship and marriage, social relations, poverty and its relief, male and female, recreation and leisure, education, literacy and communication, the body and health, and death. It uses a range of primary source material and secondary reading to enable students to gain an insight into the long-lost material environment and mental world of this fascinating period, and to view it from the perspective of the common man and woman.

Pre-requisite(s): Before taking this module you must pass at least 60 credits from {MO1007, MO1008, MO2008, HI2001, MH2002}

Weekly contact: 1 x 2-hour seminar, plus 1 office hour.
