This module is part of a series of three devoted to the research leading to the Dissertation. It comes after ML5104 Dissertation Report and before ML5199 Dissertation. It consists of a series of one-to-one meetings with the supervisor in which specific areas and issues of the topic are explored. The module outcome is twofold: (i) a 5,000-word piece of writing which is consistent with the work to be carried out in the Dissertation, such as a literature review or a first full draft of a chapter, or shorter versions of more than one; and (ii) an oral presentation where the student provides a summary of the progress achieved towards the Dissertation during the semester and pointing to work that is to be embarked upon during the next and final semester.
