The aims of this module are to put the development of Roman comedy in its Hellenistic context, to explore the different approaches of Plautus and Terence in language, metre, style, and technique, and to investigate the issues involved in continuing scholarly debate. Three plays will be read closely with modern commentaries and their introductions. The influence of Menander will also be examined, using English translations of his work. his work.
