This module will provide an introduction to a variety of areas in Linguistics. In particular, it will analyse the structures and functions of language and will consist of a study of grammatical structures in English; the ways in which meaning is constructed from morpheme to text and the system of sounds in English and pronunciation. There will be an element of active participation in the lectures as well as in the seminars.
