This one-semester core module introduces fundamental concepts, questions and analytical frameworks relevant to legal, historical and constitutional research. Taught by the module co-ordinator supported by experts trained in a variety of different disciplinary approaches, topics will include law and statehood; law and formalism; law and social science; colonialism, empire and law; 'law and/in society'; and 'global law'. Emphasis will be placed throughout the module on developing analytical and critical research skills, including teaching students how to frame relevant research questions and independent-study projects.
