Key information

SCOTCAT credits : 30

ECTS credits : 15

Level : SCQF level 11

Semester: 2

Planned timetable: To be arranged

This practical module provides an opportunity to learn applied skills that are commonly required in development work. Taught by a combination of academic staff and practitioners, this course acts as a bridge between the academic study of development and the practical challenges faced by development workers in the field. The module has three main strands. The first is a suite of hands-on workshops, teaching practical techniques such as budgeting, and fundraising. The second focusses on monitoring, evaluation and learning, and links the evaluation work done in development organisations with quantitative and qualitative research methods. The final strand deals with careers in development, both through an overview of the different actors in the development industry, and by exploring of the issue of identity in international development work. This module will also include an introduction to summer projects.
