Modernism, in its narrowest sense, refers to the radical literary experiments that occurred in English poetry and prose in the aftermath of the First World War by writers which may include T.S. Eliot, James Joyce and Virginia Woolf. This module will explore those experiments in the context of the wider movements in culture and society that informed literary modernism in the first decades of the twentieth century.
