This module provides an opportunity to undertake a sustained piece of independent work, on a topic chosen by the student in consultation with a member of the School, leading to the presentation of an essay not more than 10,000 words in length. The dissertation may consist of a critical discussion or of a project based on the extensive collection of electronic texts currently available to the School. It will involve personal reading and research and will develop a range of skills, including investigative reading, use of information technology, the exploitation of library and internet resources, and the organisation and presentation of evidence and argument.
