This module introduces and revises modelling, design and implementation in Python up to the level required to complete programming assignments within other MSc modules. Students complete a number of practical exercises in laboratory sessions.

Learning and teaching methods and delivery

Weekly contact: Students should expect to engage in approximately six tutorials over the course of the module, which will be scheduled with an awareness of the pace at which they are progressing, rather than at a fixed time each week. Students should consider the amount of independent study time this module involves when planning their learning.

  • Have mastered concepts of modelling, design, and programming in Python and should have attained practical skills in applying these concepts.
  • Be conversant with effective documentation, layout, debugging and testing.
  • Be able to use Python programming and development tools.
  • Be able to design a Python model and implement the model in Python using modules, exceptions, dynamic typing, very high level dynamic data types, and classes.
