This module offers a systematic introductory treatment of molecular recognition, emphasizing fundamental concepts of intermolecular interactions and molecular recognition in solution. The nature, strength and directionality of orbital, hydrogen-bonding and hydrophobic interactions will be explored. Spectroscopic and other techniques for studying these interactions will be outlined with examples.
