Focusing on the years 1910-1960, this module will examine the ways that artists in England have developed a range of approaches to the idea of modern art. It will examine artists' responses to developments in modernism in Europe and elsewhere, but also their efforts to draw on national and pre-modernist traditions. Other aspects covered will include craft and architecture, popular 'visual' culture, and the onset of the end of modernism in England.
