Political theory and practice have strong aesthetic dimensions. The importance of sensory registers and emotional experience to how power operates is being taken increasingly seriously by scholars and practitioners. This course unpacks the relationship between politics and aesthetics by applying it to various cultures globally and across different arts sectors, including film, exhibitions, photography and sculpture. Students will be encouraged to develop their own aesthetic portfolios concentrating on particular art forms that demonstrate the ways in which aesthetics and politics affect each other. The module has both strong theoretical and practical content and is assessed through a range of methods and technologies.
