Planned timetable:
International Relations (IR) is a living, breathing discipline populated by people. Yet often the very people who do IR and constitute and shape the discipline are overlooked or evade reflection. This module provides an alternative, more in-depth exploration of theories of IR by focusing on some of these very people, that is, key theorists in the discipline. From classical realism to Queer IR, each week will take an IR theorist in turn and put their work under the microscope. Working through these theories and theorists in this manner enables us to trace the nuanced and particular ways that theories can be mobilised to help make sense of the complexities of international relations. Doing so also permits more engaged and sophisticated critical evaluations of who and what the discipline is.
