This module introduces students to an exciting range of texts from the seventeenth century with an emphasis on the social networks within which seventeenth-century English literature was written and read. Those networks are loosely defined in terms of patronage, coteries, and politics. Authors to be studied may include John Donne, Ben Jonson, Aemilia Lanyer, John Milton, Andrew Marvell, John Dryden, Lord Rochester, Aphra Behn, and John Bunyan. We will read works in verse and prose.
