This project enables a student to research a special topic of his/her choice (in consultation with staff) and to develop it at length in dissertation form. The length of the dissertation should be 10,000 words, including text, footnotes and appendices. It must be submitted by the end of the semester. Intended learning outcomes

  • Have detailed knowledge of the topic examined in the dissertation, properly informed by the broader context of the field(s) of study (e.g., Systematic or Historical Theology, Hebrew Bible, New Testament, Christian ethics, etc.).
  • Identify and refine viable research questions and develop an approach to answering such questions
  • Compile and evaluate bibliography using library and electronic resources (databases, search engines, et cetera).
  • Construct and present clear and convincing arguments and evaluation of sources with appropriate citation
  • Summarize, present and defend a complex argument in a brief format
