The module introduces students to three works of pre-twentieth-century literature and culture to be read in Russian, while improving reading and comprehension skills. It will include a combination of canonical and non-canonical texts by women and men, and explore the cultural and institutional contexts in which texts were produced, published, read, or viewed. Students will share impressions through class and online discussions, and informal presentations. This module will prepare students for Honours content modules where longer and more complex texts are read in Russian. While optional, students intending to pursue single or joint honours including Russian are encouraged to take this module.
