Availability restrictions: Must be employed full or part-time in health, social or voluntary sector services to people with intellectual disabilities.

Planned timetable: 150 notional hours of learning time (delivered by online distance learning)

The module investigates how mental health difficulties reveal themselves in people with intellectual disabilities and how they may be diagnosed. Also investigated, through evidence based practice: different types of mental health difficulties, a range of responses by front-line staff to such difficulties, methods of assessment and courses of treatment, residential and non-residential mental health services, and ethical and legal issues related to mental health difficulties.

Learning and teaching methods and delivery

Weekly contact: 1 introductory seminar - Online teaching and learning materials supplied for distance learning, supported by online materials and accessed via University websites (Moodle), library electronic databases. University tutor support by email and telephone.
