This module aims to give an introduction to classical Arab culture by exploring the intellectual history of the Arab world and the context of its development during the early and classical period (6th-15th centuries). The course will cover subjects such as the history of the Arabian Peninsula up until Abbasid times; the Arabic language, its history, script and literature; the Qur'an, its style and content; Islamic theology and philosophy; science and knowledge in Islam; and Islamic art and architecture.
