This module offers students the opportunity to draw on the expertise of the Department of Russian in order to explore a topic of their choice in depth. Potential subjects of study include: the English Novel in Russia; Issues in Russian Cultural Memory; Narratology and the Short Story; Russian Crime Fiction; Russian Romantic Prose; Russian and Polish Modernism; Russian Formalism in context; the Soviet Writing Self; Socialist Realism Inside and Out; Andrei Platonov; Race and Ethnicity in Russian and Russophone Literature; Russian Literary Peripheries; and Russian Cinema in the Putin Era. Students taking the module as part of the MLitt in Russian Studies will be expected to complete readings in the original.
