Academic year(s): 2018-2019

Key information

SCOTCAT credits : 10

ECTS credits : 5

Level : SCQF level 11

Semester: 2

Planned timetable: To be arranged.

This module combines language and content elements in the form of directed study and aims to prepare students who are taking the language pathway of the Comparative Literature MLitt for the independent research they will undertake in their dissertation. Students are given additional exposure to the new language they are learning and expert advice and practice on the content material (authors/subjects) which they intend to pursue in their dissertation. The expertise can be drawn from any of the languages taught in the School of Modern Languages: Arabic, German, Italian, Persian, Russian and Spanish. If a student comes in with a level of French equivalent to A-level, AP score of 4 or SATII score of 700+, and embarks on the language pathway in French, they can also take the module in French. Translations of the core texts discussed in class will be available to help facilitate student learning.
