The module examines some of the central themes in anthropological studies of the history and social organisation of West African peoples. West Africa has been the source of much innovative work relevant to the broader field of social anthropological theory. Attention will be given to a selected set of topics from the literature. The course will give an appreciation of the cultural particularities of the region as well as an awareness of the wider theoretical importance of the selected topics..
