Will Fowler is Professor of Latin American Studies. He is the author of Mexico in the Age of Proposals, 1821-1853 (Westport, CT: 1998), Tornel and Santa Anna, The Writer and the Caudillo (Westport, CT: 2000), Latin America since 1780 (London, 2002; 2nd edition, 2008), and Santa Anna of Mexico (Lincoln, NE: 2007). This 502 page-long biography of six-times Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna came out in paperback in 2009, and is due to be published in translation by the Universidad Veracruzana in 2010. Fowler has published numerous articles on the early national period and edited eleven volumes on Mexican and Latin American political history, including Gobernantes mexicanos, 2 vols. (Mexico City, 2008), and Forceful Negotiations: The Origins of the Pronunciamiento in Nineteenth-Century Mexico due to come out with the University of Nebraska Press in 2010. He is currently coordinating a three-year AHRC-funded project focussed on researching the dynamics and culture of the pronunciamiento (1821-76) (2007-2010) [see: http://arts.st-andrews.ac.uk/pronunciamientos/]. The manuscript of the second project-related edited volume Malcontents, Rebels, and Pronunciados: The Politics of Insurrection in Nineteenth-Century Mexico has just been submitted to the publisher. The web-based relational "Pronunciamientos Database" which will hold over 1,500 digitized pronunciamiento texts will go live at the end of September 2010. Fowler is commited to editing a third volume (on the memory, commemoration, and representation of this particular political practice [part petition/part rebellion]) in 2010, and writing a monograph on The Pronunciamiento in Independent Mexico, 1821-1876 the year after.Key words: Latin America political history, especially of Mexico.
