Studies on the enzymes of the tryptophan metabolic pathway, including kynureninase and quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase (QPRTase)., This includes studies on their chemical mechanisms using kinetic techniques, structure and the design and synthesis of novel inhibitors. Enzymes on this pathway are potential targets for neurologically active drugs. Studies on the biological activity of glucosinolates and their potential as anti-cancer agents, including studies on their metabolism and bioavailability. The chemical synthesis of isotopically labelled glucosinolates. The chemical synthesis of isoflavones and their metabolites. The chemical synthesis of novel lignans and their metabolites. The chemical synthesis of isotopically labelled phytoestrogens for use as internal standards in analysis and for studies on their metabolism. The design and synthesis of novel nitric oxide donor drugs. Studies on enzyme immobilisation in nanoengineered mesoporous materials to produce novel catalysts with industrial applications.
