Memos for staffNew Online Authorised Signatory Database#7572 Posted by Beki Thomson, Deputy Director of Finance (rmt10@st-andrews.ac.uk) on 10/02/2012 The Finance Department has moved away from the previous paper-based system and now has a new online system http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/staff/money/Authorisedsignatories/ for managing the authorised signatories for manual invoices across the University. The new system is flexible and user friendly and removes the need for manual forms being completed by Schools and Units for every change. To enable us to complete the transition over to the new system, we will need every School and Unit to provide Finance with an up-to-date list of all authorised signatories for each cost centre and analysis code. You will shortly be contacted by a member of Finance who will explain what is required from each School and Unit. Please note that this is a one-off exercise which we would like to have completed by the end of April 2012. If you have any questions then please contact Karen Laing, Accounts Payable Supervisor on Ext 2491. Get fit on your lunch break!#7517 Posted by Laura Philpott (lp47@st-andrews.ac.uk) on 03/02/2012 Circuits: Tuesday and Thursday 13.10 – 14.00 at The University Sport Centre (St Leonards Road)
Circuits is a class that will give you a full-body workout that combines resistance training with aerobic exercise. When it comes to getting lean and mean in a hurry, it's one of the most effective types of exercise programme. It's called circuit training because it often involves a series of exercises (usually 6 to 10) at different points or "stations" laid out in a circuit. The circuit will generally involve a series of resistance stations, using weights or body-weight exercises like push-ups and lunges. These exercises will target different muscle groups to strengthen and tone your whole body as you work your way around the course. The resistance stations are interspersed with cardiovascular exercises, like shuttle runs and squat-thrusts, to strengthen your heart and lungs and, of course, to burn off that belly. For more information on the classes that the University sports centre run please see the website http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/sport/EnergiseClasses/ or call (01334) 462190. Events will not be restricted to links tickets holders and it is hoped that we can organise medal competitions on a variety of local courses. Showing an interest now will on no way oblige anyone to take part in the future, but it would be a useful way of measuring interest. Everyone builds new and strengthens existing relationships by networking. It’s all about communication and these days the art of face to face networking can sometimes be overlooked. There can never be a substitute for making good connections by attending both internal and external events.

How often, having been at an event, have you sensed an opportunity that you have not actually followed up? Prospects don't buy 'on the spot', it takes time to create trust and build a relationship. If you don't call after spotting that chance to work together, why did you go? Was it simply for the free food and drink?
This session will convince you, with an entertaining and powerful presentation, that, forever more, you will just want to follow up those initial leads. I'm an Entrepreneur... Did you know that over a third of students studying at St Andrews are from outside the UK/EU? Did you know that international students now have to enter the UK using a Tier 4 visa? And that they have to demonstrate English proficiency before a visa is issued? Did you know that the university has to commit to sponsoring each one before a visa is issued? Did you know that if we get this wrong, the UKBA can withdraw our licence to recruit international students? If you didn’t know all of this then don’t worry – you’re not alone! If you are involved with international students in any way and would like to understand more about the University’s responsibilities and requirements, and how they affect your work then this session is for you. Changes to the Central Events Moderator email account#7472 Posted by Rich Gordon (rg40@st-andrews.ac.uk) on 18/01/2012 Due to confusion over who receives email via events@st-andrews.ac.uk , and in a bid to minimise unnecessary email traffic to the account, the central events moderator has changed the contact email address for the central calendar. The central events moderator’s sole responsibility is to vet submissions to the central website calendar. The moderator has no organisational involvement in any of the events submitted. You can now contact the central events moderator via centralcalendar@st-andrews.ac.uk – this email address continues to be solely for technical support with or amendments/cancellations required for events already on the web calendar, and nothing more. Submissions to the Events Calendar should still be made at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/submit |
